A message from Mary

Many of you will know that I have had an extended period away from work convalescing after the major surgery I had in December.  I am very thankful that the surgery went very well and that my recovery is progressing as expected.  I just need to be patient for my energy to return fully.  Thank you so much for your good wishes, support and prayers.  They have made a world of difference! Best wishes, Revd Mary

Journeying through Holy Week together

Holy Week, which begins on Palm Sunday, marks the last week of Jesus' earthly life.  For Christians it is a special time when we pause to consider Jesus' love for us; a love so great that he died for us.  As a Flagstaff Family, as we journey with Jesus through his final days, we like to journey through Holy Week together, worshipping at each of the Family's churches. On Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of Holy Week we hold a service of 'Compline' or 'Night Prayer'.  This is a service originally prayed by monks and is a quiet, reflective service to look back on the day that has been and to ask for God's presence with us overnight.  It is a beautiful service when little is demanded of you; a space simply to be in God's presence. On Thursday we remember the last supper Jesus had with his friends, and share bread and wine together. On Friday we remember Jesus' death.  In the morning 'A Passion for Ashby' sees us walking through the streets of Ashby following a cross.  At different places, we will pause, hear part of the story of Jesus' death and reflect upon it.  It is a simple act of bearing witness to Jesus' suffering.  The services that take place later in the day at Breedon and St Helen's will trace that same story. Finally, on Easter morning, we celebrate the truth that death was not the end for Jesus, that he rose again to new life, and so forged the way for all who turn to him as Saviour to receive new life, too. Do come and join us at this special time of year. Revd Mary
